Micro Cement

My previous decorator after 3 attempts failed to paint my ceiling properly. Frankie came and sorted it out the first time. I then showed Frankie a wall that had been finished by my previous decorator which I was unhappy with. Frankie gave me a very reasonable price and came back and fixed it. As he was doing that he also corrected a few other jobs that had been messed up by the previous decorator but didnt charge me anymore. These days finding a honest professional tradesman is very difficult. I would recommend Frankie all day long. The 2 other jobs I asked him to look at he could have easily priced me up for them but he didnt. On top of that he left me a roll of tape to do my edges with and gave me some very good tips.

Microcement FAQs, Guides & Expert Advice

FAQs: Microcement

What is microcement?

Microcement is a high-performance decorative coating made of cement, polymers, and pigments, applied in thin layers to floors, walls, worktops, bathrooms, and more. It gives a seamless, contemporary concrete finish with excellent durability.

Where can I use microcement?

Microcement is extremely versatile. It can be applied to almost any surface - plaster, tile, wood, cement board, and even over existing floors or walls. It's perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, wet rooms, stairs, floors, worktops, and feature walls.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. When sealed correctly, microcement is fully waterproof, making it ideal for bathrooms, showers, wet rooms, and splashbacks. At 2nd City Spray Solutions, we apply all required primers and sealants to ensure water resistance.

How long does it last?

Microcement is a long-lasting solution, typically lasting 10-15 years or more with the right care. It resists cracking and wear when applied professionally and maintained properly.

What finishes and colours are available?

We offer a wide range of finishes - matt, satin, or gloss - and colours including greys, beiges, whites, blacks, and bespoke tones to suit your space. The trowel-applied nature of microcement gives it a natural texture unique to each application.

Can it be used with underfloor heating?

Absolutely. Microcement works very well with underfloor heating, thanks to its thin layers and thermal conductivity.

Is it cold to the touch?

It's similar to natural stone - cool underfoot in colder rooms, but it warms up nicely with underfloor heating or sunlight.

Can I install it myself?

We wouldn't recommend it. Microcement requires experience to get the seamless finish it's known for. Uneven application, improper sealing, or the wrong base prep can cause failure. Our trained team applies it professionally to guarantee results.

Guide: Why Choose Microcement?

Microcement has become a top choice for modern homes and commercial interiors across the West Midlands. Here's why more people are turning to it:

  • Seamless finish - No grout lines or joins, just smooth, continuous surfaces
  • Waterproof - Ideal for wet rooms, bathrooms, and kitchens
  • Strong and durable - Resists scratches, heat, and wear
  • Customisable - Choose colour, finish, and texture to match your vision
  • Minimal thickness - Adds just 2-3mm, perfect for overlays and renovations
  • Eco-conscious - Less waste than tiling or full concrete pours

Whether you want a sleek bathroom, industrial-style floor, or modern feature wall, microcement offers a durable and stylish solution.

Advice: What to Expect from a Microcement Project

  1. Consultation - We assess your surface, desired finish, and colour choice
  2. Preparation - Surfaces are primed, levelled, and prepped for adhesion
  3. Application - We apply multiple thin coats of microcement by hand
  4. Sealing - The surface is sealed to ensure waterproofing and stain resistance
  5. Curing and care - We advise on curing time and how to maintain your surface

From start to finish, most projects take 3-5 days depending on size and complexity.

Care Tips: Looking After Microcement

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners - avoid bleach or harsh chemicals
  • Clean up spills promptly - especially oils or acids
  • Don't drag heavy furniture - use pads to prevent scuffs
  • Re-sealing may be needed every few years for heavy-use areas

We'll provide full aftercare guidance following installation.
